Exterior Waterproofing Work
Location: Trellis Crescent, Mississauga, ON L5L 2M2
Sales Representative: Patrick Misko

The client contacted The City Wide Group regarding cracks on the foundation wall located near the gas meter. The client reported that the cracks had not changed in size or appearance, but requested a professional assessment to ensure long-term protection. Following inspection, exterior basement waterproofing was recommended to prevent potential water infiltration and preserve the structural integrity of the foundation.

The scope of work included approximately 45 linear feet (LF) of exterior waterproofing at an excavation depth of approximately 5 feet. To access the work area, the air conditioning unit, patio stones, and interlock were removed. Reinstallation of surface materials will be completed next spring, after the soil has had sufficient time to settle.

Challenges

  • Foundation cracks identified near the gas meter requiring careful excavation and handling.
  • Existing interlock, patio stones, and AC unit needed to be safely removed prior to excavation.
  • Restoration must be delayed until next spring to allow proper soil settlement and prevent shifting.

Solution and Implementation Process

  1. Site Preparation
  • Work area was clearly marked and secured to ensure safe working conditions.
  • All required utility locates were confirmed prior to excavation, with added caution near the gas meter.
  • Carefully disconnected and removed the AC unit, ensuring all components were safely stored.
  • Removed existing patio stones and interlock, setting them aside for future reinstallation.

  1. Excavation
  • Excavated soil to a depth of approximately 5 feet, exposing 45 LF of foundation wall.
  • Excavation was performed with caution around the gas meter and service connections.

  1. Foundation Preparation
  • Cleaned and brushed the exposed foundation surface to remove debris, dirt, and loose concrete.
  • Completed parging repairs where needed to ensure a smooth and uniform surface for waterproofing application.

  1. Waterproofing System Installation
  • Applied BlueSkin WP200 rubberized waterproofing membrane to the full exposed foundation area to create a durable moisture barrier.
  • Installed Delta MS drainage board to protect the membrane and promote proper water dispersion along the foundation.

  1. Drainage System Installation
  • Installed new 4” perforated weeping tile, wrapped in filter fabric to reduce clogging and ensure long-term performance.
  • Surrounding the drainage system with clean ¾” gravel enhanced water flow and drainage efficiency.

  1. Backfilling and Temporary Restoration
  • Backfilled the trench in compacted layers using native soil to minimize settlement.
  • Cleaned the work area and removed all excess soil and materials from the site.
  • Reinstallation of the AC unit, patio stones, and interlock will be completed next spring, once the soil has adequately settled to ensure a stable and level final surface.

Conclusion

Exterior basement waterproofing was successfully completed at 4136 Trellis Crescent, Mississauga, covering approximately 45 LF of foundation wall at a depth of 5 feet. The installation of BlueSkin WP200, Delta MS, and new weeping tile provides long-term protection against water infiltration and reduces the risk of structural deterioration. Final surface restoration—including patio stone, interlock, and AC reinstallation—will be performed next spring after proper soil settlement.
