Exterior Waterproofing Work

Location:  Theobalds Cir, Richmond Hill, ON

Sales Representative: Patrick Misko

The client contacted The City Wide Group regarding concerns about moisture and potential water infiltration along a section of the basement foundation. After a site assessment, exterior waterproofing was recommended to protect the property from further deterioration. The project covered approximately 18 linear feet (LF) of foundation wall. Interlock removal and reinstallation were required, with final reinstallation scheduled after the soil has had time to settle.

 Challenges

  • Signs of moisture penetration along the foundation wall.
  • Existing interlocking stone had to be removed and set aside for later reinstatement.
  • Final restoration to be completed after soil settlement to prevent shifting or unevenness.

Solution and Implementation Process

  1. Site Preparation
  • Marked and secured the work area to ensure a safe and controlled environment.
  • Confirmed all necessary utility locates prior to excavation.
  • Carefully lifted and set aside interlock stones for reinstallation at a later phase.
  1. Excavation
  • Excavated soil down to the footing level, exposing approximately 18 LF of the foundation wall.
  • Excavation depth reached approximately 6 feet, allowing full access to the waterproofing area.
  1. Foundation Preparation
  • Cleaned and brushed the exposed foundation to remove dirt, debris, and loose concrete.
  • Completed parging repairs where needed to create a smooth surface suitable for waterproofing membrane application.
  1. Waterproofing System Installation
  • Applied BlueSkin WP200 membrane to provide a fully bonded and continuous waterproofing barrier.
  • Installed Delta MS drainage board over the membrane to protect the waterproofing system and promote proper water flow.
  1. Drainage System Installation
  • Installed new 4” perforated weeping tile, wrapped in filter fabric to prevent clogging.
  • Surrounding drainage area filled with clean ¾” gravel to ensure effective water management and flow toward the designated discharge point.
  1. Backfilling and Restoration
  • Backfilled in compacted layers using native soil to reduce the risk of settlement.
  • Work area was cleaned, and excess soil and materials were removed from the site.
  • Interlock stones will be reinstalled after the soil has settled, ensuring a level and stable final surface.
